First Sunday of Advent

This Sunday we begin the liturgical new year with the First Sunday of Advent. During the Advent season we prepare for the birth of Christ in Christmas. We invite and encourage you to enter the story this year. How will Advent 2008 be different? How will you prepare to celebrate Jesus' birth on Christmas Day?

Soon we will place links to different Advent resources on the left sidebar so be sure to look out for those. Also, please make note of the following events that will be taking place in our parish during the Advent season:

• December 4-Tajci concert at 7 p.m. in the church (to learn more about Tacji go to http://www.idobelieve.com/)
• December 6-Bilingual Posada at 6 p.m. in the Parish Hall (This is a combination of two traditional celebrations done in some Hispanic countries in preparation for Christmas. We will be reenacting Mary and Joseph seeking a place to stay upon their arrival in Bethlehem, followed by prayer, Christmas carols and food. It is a beautiful way for people of all ages to come together in preparation for Christmas! We hope you can make it and ask that you bring some food to share with others!)
• December 14-An African Christmas from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria (Fr. Camillus will show us a video and speak about how Christmas is celebrated in Africa)

During this Advent season we will be posting links to the Sunday readings so that you may read them, pray with them and share with others what they speak to you. Try to take some time before the Sunday Mass to prayerfully read the Scriptures with an open mind and heart. You may want to focus on just one of the readings or pray with the First Reading one day, the Psalm another day and so on. After you read the passage, reflect on it. The following questions may help:

• What does this passage say to me?
• Do I identify with any of the characters in this passage? Who and why?
• What can I learn from this passage?
• Are there any particular words that stand out for me?

Share with God what this passage speaks to you and whatever else may be in your heart. We invite you to then share with the rest of us about your prayer experience and what the readings say to you by posting a comment to this entry.

Este domingo celebramos el Primer Domingo de Adviento. Durante el tiempo de adviento nos preparamos para el nacimiento de Cristo en la Navidad. Les invitamos a ¨entrar en la historia¨ este año. ¿Cómo será diferente Adviento 2008? ¿Cómo te prepararás para celebrar el nacimiento de Cristo el Día de Navidad?

Pronto tendremos recursos de adviento en la parte derecha de esta página así que estén pendientes. Por favor tomen nota de los siguientes eventos que se realizarán en nuestra parroquia durante el tiempo de adviento:

• 4 de diciembre-concierto Tacji a las 7 p.m. en la iglesia (para más información acerca de Tacji vayan a su página http://www.idobelieve.com/)
• 6 de diciembre-Posada/Novena a las 6 p.m. en el salón parroquial (Esta es una combinación de tradiciones de algunos países hispanos en preparación para Navidad. Como María y José buscaremos posada y a continuación rezaremos, cantaremos villancicos y comeremos! Es una manera bonita para que personas de todas las edades se unan en este tiempo de preparación a la Navidad. ¡Esperamos que puedan venir y les pedimos que por favor traigan un platillo para compartir con los demás!)
• 14 de diciembre-Una Navidad Africana de 4 a 5:30 p.m. en la cafetería. El Padre Camillus compartirá con nosotros como se celebra la navidad en Africa. Esta presentación será en inglés.

Durante este tiempo de adviento estaremos incluyendo enlaces para las lecturas dominicales cada semana para que las puedas leer, reflexionar y compartir con los demás cómo te hablan. Trata de tomar un tiempo antes de la Misa dominical para leer las escrituras con el corazón y la mente abiertas. Quizá deseas concentrarte más en una lectura, o a lo mejor orar con la primera lectura un día, el salmo responsorial otro, etc. Después de leer cada pasaje, reflexiona sobre él. Les sugerimos las siguientes preguntas para la reflexión:

• ¿Qué me dice este pasaje?
• ¿Me identifico con algún personaje en el pasaje? ¿Con cuál? ¿Porqué?
• ¿Qué puedo aprender de este pasaje?
• ¿Hay algunas palabras específicas que me hablan?

Comparte con Dios que te dice el pasaje y cualquier otra cosa que tengas en tu corazón. Te invitamos a que después compartas acerca de tu experiencia orando con estas lecturas y lo que significan para ti añadiendo un comentario a este ¨post.¨
